“del Grillo” Organic Sicilian Peeled Tomatoes are obtained from organically grown tomatoes grown on the family's land. The Grillo farm is a family-run business that has 92 hectares of land located in the province of Trapani.

The tomato, called siccagno, is brought to maturity without irrigation, it develops only with the natural humidity brought by the temperature difference between day and night. Once the right level of ripeness has been reached, it is harvested and selected by hand.

The cooking of Sicilian Organic Peeled Tomatoes takes place at low temperatures to maintain the organoleptic properties of the raw material and the final product unaltered. Finally, when the product is bottled, pasteurization takes place to guarantee its shelf life over time, without the addition of preservatives.

The Siccagno tomato, from our Organic Sicilian Peeled Tomatoes , is called "Sicilian red gold": it grows without water, "dry".

The name Siccagno derives, in fact, from the cultivation method which does not include irrigation. This is possible thanks to the specific characteristics of the territory where it is grown. In fact, the soil in the area is rich in clay and particular sands which allow excellent water self-regulation of the soil. Despite the high summer temperatures, the particular climate of the area allows the air to maintain a correct level of humidity, suitable for the growth of tomatoes. This type of cultivation also minimizes the need for fertilization and administration of pesticides.
