Liquors with a taste of tradition
“Sabbenerica” is an ancient saying, or better said, is an old way of greeting used by greatgrandparents
and grandparents in Siciliy up to the 50s. Literally it means “bless you”. As a matter of
fact it was a form of blessing used in villages among Sicilian people. Usually in reply the other
person used to say “a lei” o “all’amici” (“to you” or “to your friends”) or sometimes “santu e riccu”,
which means “might you be blissed and rich”. It was a way to greet and wish a good day. The
“amaro” (liquor) is without any doubts the most common way to end a meal in Italy, thank to its
digestive properties, and it is appreciated also for its medical virtues.
“E’ arrivato l’allorino” (literally “the knife grinder is here”) was born with reference to the knife
grinder, an artisan job which consisted in sharpening and grinding knives. The catchphrase, here
written in Sicilian dialect, was: “women, the knife grinder is here! He grinds knives, scissors and
little scissors…”. Laurel is generally used to alleviate abdominal crampings, stomach ache and to
facilitate digestion. It is also helps in relieving fever and flu.
“Passionao” is a direct reference to its main ingredient: maracuja, better known as passion fruit.
Passion fruit contains proteins, fats, dietary fibers, carbohydrates and sugar. Among its properties
there are minerals like potassium, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus, calcium, iron, zinc and
selenium. There are also vitamins, especially the ones belonging to group C,A,B2,B3,K and J and
beta-carotene.
“Turiddu” celebrates the best Sicilian products: lemons. “Turiddu” is the name you can find on all
the label on Amari Siciliani, a new interpretation of the typical Sicilian name Salvatore. The liquor
is made with lemon peel taken from the same tree all year round, following the life cycle of a
lemon: “verdello” from July to September, “Primofiore” from October to April, “Maggiolino” in
May, “BIanchetto” in June and July.
